Is there a right way and a wrong way of reading the tarot?

This is a burning question I often get asked a lot. Is there a right way and a wrong way of reading the tarot? The truth of the matter is absolutely not. Tarot has many different meanings behind the individual cards and what they mean to every reader.
Overall tarot goes back hundreds of years. It is even debated by many cultures where tarot cards originated from in the beginning. Many theories suggest different places and cultures; however, this makes it even more interesting.
Throughout this blog, I will uncover many of the misunderstandings and uncertainties behind the tarot. I will also give a lot of my own personal opinions and experiences whilst working as a professional reader. I hope this blog helps all of you who are either starting on your spiritual journey or are already professional readers.
Why is there no wrong way of reading the tarot?
Every tarot card reader works in their own unique and specific way. I certainly believe that from each and every individual person the cards mean something to them due to their life experiences.
Having your own tarot card deck that you trust and can work with properly is vital. There are 100s of decks to choose from and choosing the right deck for you can be challenging however you must find one that mirrors your personality and character.
What’s more is that there is no overall book that tells you how to and how not to read the tarot. Because of this, it gives us even more proof that there is no right or wrong way. Another thing is that every deck is very different from one another.
Studying the cards clearly from your own perspective, your own beliefs and your own opinions. The other thing about tarot is that it is highly opinionated much like our everyday lives. What one person sees in something the other person sees something completely different.
Tarot spreads
Very much like there are many different decks there are also many different spreads. One of the most famous is the Celtic cross. Finding your own way of working with your own spread is also vital.
I remember asking a few years ago, another professional reader about working the way that I work personally with my own spreads that I have devised. I tried working with a Celtic cross spread and had absolutely no luck. She told me that whatever card you pull out and whatever way you want to work is your own personal spread. I have never gone back to working any other way in the way that I work now and it works very well for me.
There is nothing wrong with working with the Celtic cross or any other tarot spreads. However, you must always work the way that you feel most comfortable. If it doesn’t work for you then it’s not right for you. You’re not meant to be doing it that way you’re meant to be doing it the way that you feel comfortable and confident.
Intuition
Importantly, you are not only working with the cards. You are also working with your:
- Intuition
- Spirit guides
- Clairvotance
- Clairsentience
- Psychometry
All of the psychic senses are just as important as reading the cards. Incorporating them into the tarot card reading is important. Often I find that when I start to work with the client reading the cards more information comes in naturally.
I really work on the client’s aura and get a sense of what’s going on with them. I rely on my spirit guides to give me the information that the client needs to know.
How to learn to read the tarot?
Learning, the tarot takes time and effort. However, it’s a lot easier to learn and master quicker than Mediumship for example. There are many ways in which you can learn how to read the cards.
For myself, I went on a course that lasted a number of weeks. From there I began to watch many different YouTube videos and read many different books. Some tarot teachers recommend that you do not read books however I would disagree with that. You follow what you feel comfortable with.
YouTube does offer a lot of tarot guidance. Again what is also important to know is that you should learn from more than one specific person or book. Furthermore, I would also recommend that you take up a course with a teacher. This would also help you to learn how to read for people as you will be practising with one another.
One thing I always did whilst learning to read the tarot and even do now as I study the cards. Every time I look at my tarot cards and every individual card, I see something new. Also, I see something new every time I read for a client.
Summary
So to put it altogether and there is no right or wrong way of reading in the tarot. Every single reader works differently and uses the cards in different ways. Find your own path, find your own spreads and your own way of working with them.
