The Hermit, all you need to know about this tarot card
The Hermit is possibly one of the most recognised and well-known cards in the entire tarot deck. Also quite a mysterious card I suppose with hermits being very solitary and private people. I myself have always found it fascinating why they choose to live such solitary lives away from human contact. Perhaps they are so content in their own space and company that they don’t need anybody else. Or perhaps being on their own brings some closer to their own spiritual journey.
Major Arcana and number nine in the tarot deck. Personally, I have pulled The Hermit card out for myself many times. Particularly in the past when I was going through my Mediumship and psychic development. Feeling alone a lot of the time however looking back on that time in my life it makes more sense to me now. Importantly I needed my own space and my own company.
I do often find that people are scared of being alone. However, I do also believe that our own company is very important and sometimes the best company you can have is your own.
The Hermit in our everyday life
There are times in life when you can be in a room with hundreds and hundreds of people but still feel alone. Also, you may be surrounded by your nearest and dearest and still feel alone. Loneliness is something that we all have to deal with from time to time however I don’t think it is always going to last.
Furthermore, all of us are individuals. No two people are ever going to be the same with opinions all the way they think. Nevertheless, we will need to find our route in life. People can let us down and also things don’t always turn out the way we would like them to. Going deep within yourself as The Hermit suggests is always something that you need to do. Connecting to your soul and feeling for yourself deep down within your gut what spirit and also what your Soul desires for you.
Importantly, I don’t think enough of us do that. Easily influenced by others, particularly in the modern-day world we don’t really have time for ourselves on a more personal level. If you decide to call it spiritual that’s up to you however you don’t need to be a spiritual person to try and get an understanding of who you really are.
This I think really affects the younger generation. In particular with social media and the mental effect that it has on them. For myself growing up during a generation of social media in my teenagers I found that hugely affected me.
The Hermit is definitely multigenerational and does not link to any particular age group.
The Hermit on a spiritual level
Above all what spirituality means to me personally is really working out who you are as a person. It’s a very simplistic view of spirituality which is why The Hermit as such a humble and simple individual from the card shows us means so much to me.
Unquestionably The Hermit also shows us that things are not always certain in life. And that we should take a humble approach to any job, relationship or anything that we hold Sacred. Things do not always work out the way we would like them to as I’m sure all of you reading this blog would understand. However, on the other hand, when one door closes another opens and something new comes into our lives.
We all come into this world alone as an individual and we all go out on our own. People do also change and what I mean by that is personalities of people can change and ourselves too. Never be afraid of change and this is what The Hermit really shows. Also, never be afraid to be either eccentric or different because that’s how you truly are deep down. Hermits are very different and people consider them to be strange however we are all strange in our own way.
What The Hermit means to me on a deep level
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were all subjected to working and staying at home. Many of us lost many loved ones but also I noticed a change in many people that I was friends with at the time.
As the saying goes, you find out who your true friends are in difficult times and for me it definitely happened. There were a few friends that I had that completely cut all contact with me and I suppose they had changed in their own way. As difficult as it was it’s just important to move forward as there are so many more people to meet.
Materialism has never really meant much to me as I tend to be quite happy with everything I already have. When I was very young, I was taken to some very poor areas of the world. Seeing children with literally nothing the same age as I was when I had virtually everything they could ever dream of. A free education, free health service and the chance to make something with my life a lot easier than they could. All of this is stuck with me and even when I was a child, I started to see how unfair the world could be.
Gratitude
Gratitude, even when times are very bad is something that I always try to stand by. Adding to that, I will never forget something that somebody said that has stuck in my mind ever since. I overheard a conversation years ago about a lady who was living in a hotel due to the fact that she had been made homeless.
As she was talking to somebody she said “There is always somebody worse off than me. I have a roof over my head and I have a job. There are people with nothing and I’m not one of them.” It was so powerful to me that I will never forget what she said and it’s something I revert to in difficult times.
